PhotoChallenge.org 2009, Week 1

Friday, January 9, 2009 | |

I have decided, with some trepidation, to throw my hat in the ring of the PhotoChallenge.org 2009 Challenge. My photography was kicked into a higher gear last July thanks to the Lights Challenge. It forced me to get my camera out of "auto" mode, to learn lots more stuff about my editing software, and to upload to flickr every day. It was hard some days, but I managed (with a couple of "make-up" sessions) to post 31 photos in the month.

And now, Trevor Carpenter and his new partner-in-crime, Jeremy Brooks, have kicked it up another notch (or may be 3). A year-long challenge, with a different topic every day. I have no idea whether I'll be able to keep up that pace for very long, but I think I'll learn a lot from the attempt.

As of this writing, we are in Day 9, and it occurred to me that it might be good to look back about once a week at the work that's being produced for this challenge. My plan is to link to my photo for each day along with my favorite of the other submissions. So, without further ado, here's the summary of Week 1:

Great work Scott. I am sooooo far behind in this challenge now (up to day 4) that I think I might just sit on the sidelines and watch you become a master photographer over the next year!

Brad, I hope you don't completely give up. You could always pick one theme out of each week and shoot it over the weekend. I know there's no way I'll make it 365 straight.

Of course, the other "challenge" will be to find time to shoot other things once in a while!
